The land of the disappearing lake, of caves, natural bridges, colourful flora and fauna, and of a treasure trove of myths and legends.
Mountain peaks with breath-taking vistas, meadows in bloom, a mystical underworld, crystalline streams, and magical forests. All this on a relatively small area that is the Notranjska Regional Park. Through the centuries, water has made the limestone and dolomite foundation into majestic Karstic phenomena. The waters from the disappearing Lake Cerknica flow together underground, and emerge in Rak Škocjan Valley, which was created after the ceiling of a cave collapsed. Two formidable stone bridges remain as a memory of that time. Cross Cave, the world-renowned attraction with a variety of underground lakes, is only a few kilometres away. The regional park is home to the tiniest snail, the stoutest bear, and everything in between. The diversity of life in this part of the world has long attracted naturalists and nature lovers, who keep discovering its many new and unseen facets.
